“We respectfully acknowledge the Province of Newfoundland & Labrador, of which the City of St. John’s is the capital City, as the ancestral homelands of the Beothuk. Today, these lands are home to a diverse population of indigenous and other peoples. We would also like to acknowledge with respect the diverse histories and cultures of the Mi’kmaq, Innu, Inuit, and Southern Inuit of this Province.”

Notion of Motion to Amendment Section 14(b) of the Sanitation Regulations By-Law

Councillor Hickman provided the following Notice of Motion to amend section 14(b) of the Sanitation Regulations By-Law so as to reduce the dimensions of fibre products that may be securely tied into a bundle for waste collection.

Councillor Hickman tabled a petition signed by residents of Frampton Avenue. The residents are requesting that the City re-think the proposed installation of a sidewalk on the west side of Frampton Avenue from civic number 3 to civic number 21. 

Councillor Froude requested the motion be amended to waive any considered fees associated with the lease.

    That Council approve the temporary lease of portions of Churchill Park parking lot as identified on the phasing plans, attached hereto with any associated fees to be waived.

    That Council approve $60,000 in funding from the Parks and Open Space Reserve Fund to contribute to the construction of the proposed AMBA pump track facility at Quidi Vidi Park. The City will administer the project.

Councillor Korab asked Staff to describe the process for a demolition order and provide a timeline as to when the demolition would possibly take place. The Deputy City Manager of Planning, Engineering and Regulatory Services explained that the City would issue the demolition order and it would be the responsibility of the homeowner to acknowledge the order and demolish the building. If the homeowner fails to take action the City would then demolish the building. Staff expects that the demolition would take place this Summer.
